Mother-daughter duo sets West Michigan trends

Since 1997 Maribeth VanZalen and Jamie Grasman, owners of jb and me in downtown Holland and Grand Rapids, have offered designer fashion to women of all ages.

“The wide demographic was created by us, a mother and daughter team, because we really stay true to our personal style and taste,” Grasman said. “We are blessed we have the same vision for jb and me and we respect each others opinions, which has lead us to a great partnership.”

The eclectic boutique can add spice to any fashionista’s wardrobe as the holiday season falls upon the lakeshore. Grasman stepped out from behind the counter to talk with Urban Street.”

What are some upcoming trends for the holiday season?

Jb and me guests will find amazing ways to wrap themselves up in cozy layers of plaid of and texture, such as our plaid blanket scarves that come in a variety of sizes, along with stylish ponchos that can be wrapped and belted.

We have dresses, denim, sweaters and boots to keep you from going into that crazy daze the holidays can bring on.

Other fun accessories to take advantage of on these cold, blustery days are our wool hats in an array of styles. And our printed leggings are a creative and stylish way to stay warm and comfortable. The fabric is amazing and can be worn at any age.

Which item is a great go-to holiday gift for a friend, sister or mom?

We carry a variety of jewelry that has little sentiments on it. One of our favorites is Lenny and Eva. This jewelry line has so many layering possibilities, with many beautiful words to remind her how special she is.

What advice do you have on turning a day dress into an evening ensemble?

We have accessories galore that can take you from casual to dressed-up for an amazing New Year’s Eve. We recommend accessorizing the ear or the neck to bring a little attention to your face. You’ll be sure to get that kiss to ring in the New Year!

What are some of your current favorite brands?

Our look is a display of our personalities put together. We both love Free People for the reason of how we can both wear the same item, but have it look totally different and age appropriate.

And we must mention shoes, too. One of our favorite brands in the store is Bed Stu. The leather and styling of this boot is one to die for!
