New restaurant

Taverna Rossa, a Mediterranean restaurant, opened in April at 129 Griffith St. in Saugatuck. Restaurateur Chris Perkey, who also owns Osteria Rossa in Grand Rapids, opened Taverna Rossa with a focus on cuisine hailing from Europe’s Mediterranean region, including Spain, France, Greece and Italy. Menu items include antipasto, steak frites, Spanish tapas, pasta and Greek saganaki. Taverna Rossa will also offer a fun perk during the summer — delivery to boats parked at nearby marinas.

New convention center

In April, Muskegon’s brand new convention center, the VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center located at 460 W. Western Ave., opened to the public. The $22 million center shares expansive views of Muskegon Lake and dunes along Lake Michigan, and is the centerpiece of a major effort to bring more convention business to Muskegon.

New Boutique

Postcards from Paradise, a Lilly Pulitzer signature store, opened in April at 12 W. Eighth St. in downtown Holland. The store sells women’s fashion and accessories, featuring brands like Lilly Pulitzer, Lisi Lerch, Lele Sadoughi, Spartina, Teleties, Capri Blue Candles and more.

New district

In April, the Saugatuck/Douglas Area Convention & Visitors Bureau announced a new social district in Saugatuck’s shopping district along the riverfront. The social district, an effort to support local bars and restaurants, lets visitors eat, drink and socialize from 11 a.m.–11 p.m. every day until May 24. Participating bars and restaurants can sell open container, to-go drinks that can be consumed within the social district.
