Spice things up! Dates don’t always have to be a dinner and a movie (even though there’s nothing wrong with that). Get some fresh air, check out some new trails and head out on a heart-pumping bike ride. Visit Ottawa County Parks & Recreation’s website for a variety of trail routes to choose from.
Everything is better with a glass of wine — set up your own wine tasting! Grab a few bottles of your favorite red, white, pink or bubbly from your local convenience store or winery. You can’t go wrong with a bottle from Fenn Valley Vineyards in Fennville. And, most importantly — don’t forget about the snacks and charcuterie. Grab your cheese, crackers and other treats at either Minit Mart location in Holland.

The outdoor date
Go pick something! Living in the agriculture-rich lakeshore region, there is always something in bloom. Try blueberry picking at S. Kamphuis Blueberries or Bowerman’s Blueberries in Holland (and grab a doughnut while you’re there), or, pick some strawberries from Visser Farms in Zeeland or apples from Crane Orchards in Fennville.
Unleash your creative side and take an art class! Long known as the “art coast of Michigan,” Saugatuck has plenty of fun, artsy activities to choose from. Check out the Ox-Bow School of Art for the chance to work closely alongside artists from across the country.

The first date
You only get one chance to make a good first impression, which is why first dates can be so nerve-wracking. Take it easy and keep things casual with a trip to your favorite local coffee shop! Check out The 205 Coffee Bar in Holland, Uncommon Coffee Roasters in Saugatuck or Respite Cappuccino Court in Douglas for a nice place to relax with a cup of joe.

Are you and your significant other big bookworms? Visit your local bookstore or library and choose books at random to take back home! See who can finish their book first — loser cooks dinner that night. Browse the shelves at Reader’s World or Herrick District Library in Holland or The Bookman in Grand Haven.
