The words “you gotta try this” never rang more true than when I tasted the food at American Char. My husband and I love barbecue and pizza, but for some reason, it hadn’t occurred to us to make a trip to the community of Drenthe to get our fix. We had been missing out and perhaps you have, too!
With the help of staff recommendations, we ordered the Char Sampler along with Brisket Tacos and a pizza for good measure.
Everything — and I mean everything — was delicious. The sampler offered beef short ribs, wings, brisket, smoked pulled chicken and pulled pork. We tried the pickles, sweet coleslaw and macaroni and cheese, too. And for dessert, we ordered the Key Lime Pie, and I highly recommend it! Chef Len’s passion for barbecue is evident and he makes a mean pizza, too. Chatting with Chef Len and hearing about his love of food and friends is what we all love about supporting our local businesses.
The restaurant is set up for indoor and outdoor dining and the counter stays busy with take-out orders. The atmosphere is fun, easy-going and family friendly. I am already planning my next visit. My only advice is to come hungry and don’t wear white!
